A fantastic opportunity for you to take home Gold at Cannes!

As well as participating in the international competition, the winning duo will spend four days at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, soaking up the atmosphere and being able to participate in all the sessions.

PRCA MENA will cover two delegate passes to Cannes PR Lions Digital Competition.

How the MENA competition works

The MENA Young Lions PR competition is the pre-selection competition based on the actual competition that takes place in Cannes, with two delegates from one company being selected for the competition in Cannes. The brief will be set by a local charity who will act as the ‘client’, and participants are given 24 hours to create a campaign.

The cost to enter is 1,500 AED per (PRCA member) team and 2,500 AED per (non-member) team. The competition is only open to consultancies.


Timeline

The MENA competition will take place on Thursday, 10th March, 2022, 10:00 - Friday, 11th March, 2022, 10:00 (24 hours). The brief is provided by a PRCA Charity In-house member. It will be circulated by email at 10:00 on Thursday 10th March.

Completed campaigns will need to be emailed back to PRCA MENA by 10:00am on Friday 11th March– in the form of a 10 page PowerPoint presentation, a 1 PowerPoint slide summary and a written submission delivered as a Word document. This should be sent to Hayley.clements@prca.mena.global The submitted presentations and written submissions will then be judged by a MENA Jury.

A shortlist of 6 campaigns will then via zoom deliver a 5 minute presentation to the Jury, explaining the PR campaign on Thursday, 31st March, 2022  

The winning team will be notified by Thursday, 7th April, 2022.

MENA Competition Rules and Entry Requirements 

The competition is open to any full-time working professionals in the PR industry, aged 31 years or younger (this includes PR freelancers). Only two participants are required to form a team, and organisations are welcome to enter multiple teams. Each participant must be aged 31 years or younger (born after 20th June, 1991) and able to travel to Cannes in June (date TBC).

PRCA MENA will cover the cost of delegate passes to Cannes PR Lions Digital Pass. All other costs will need to be covered by the competition winners.


Technology and images

At the Cannes Young Lions PR competition all participants will be required to use the hardware, software and images (Getty Images) authorised by the Festival Organisers and the Sponsors. Personal laptops or other devices are not allowed. They will have access to the internet for research purposes only.

For the purposes of the MENA competition it is recommended that the Microsoft Office and image editing software be used. Any royalty-free imagery can be utilized for the MENA competition.

MENA Competition Instructions

You will be expected to create a PR campaign which should:

  • Connect with the charity’s/not-for-profit organisation’s brand value and have an impact (i.e. increase in donations or other applicable parameters)
  • Increase awareness/create engagement with the public
  • Identify and build relations with relevant stakeholders (journalists, interest groups, opinion leaders, industry representatives, internal audiences etc.)
  • Create PR supporting material applicable in relevant media channels (i.e. press releases, infographics, statistics, online content, etc.)

Written submission called ‘Campaign Description’ (max 450 words):

Recommended break-down:
Describe the creative idea (150 words)
Potential for industry impact
Describe the strategy (150 words)
Target audience, target media, PR planning, approach
Describe the execution (150 words)
Implementation of PR activities, timeline, scale

PowerPoint presentation

A maximum of 10 slides are allowed. At the finalists’ interviews, the jury will have a maximum of 5 minutes to ask questions immediately following the 5-minute presentation.
Teams are also expected to produce 1 slide that visually summarises your presentation. This should be the last slide within your presentation.

Contestants should use at least 2 elements or channels that are predominantly PR driven. These could include:

• Social media (each social media network will be considered as ONE element)
• Brand owned channel (i.e a brand’s website)
• Brand partnership/endorsement
• Media relation with other mediums (TV/radio etc.)
• Audience /stakeholder engagement
• Content creation
• Events

Judges will only review your written submission, PowerPoint presentation and summary slide.
