Businesses are increasingly surrounded by vast quantities of data. The two core skills that everyone in the knowledge economy needs if they’re going to thrive are analytics and storytelling – the ability to interrogate and make sense of data, and the ability to use the insights extracted from data to persuade others to take action. This half-day workshop will show you how to tell powerful and purposeful stories with data, without swamping your audience with numbers and statistics.
Event Type: Classroom
Address: Virtual Classroom, Virtual Classroom
Trainer: Sam Knowles MPRCA
The Big Data revolution means that more data is available than ever before. The trouble is, most people aren’t very numerate or good at using statistics. Meanwhile, those for whom numbers and statistics hold no fear don’t always make the best storytellers. They often mistakenly believe they need to prove their point and show their workings, by which point most people have switched of.
There are some simple and effective rules of data-driven storytelling that help everyone tell more compelling stories, whoever they need to convince. Narrative by Numbers is a new workshop that shows you how. This session is relevant for practitioners at all levels of personal and professional development, from the recently-graduated analyst to the head of planning, from the main board director to novice data scientist.
Learn how to: find and use only relevant data, steer clear of false positives and spurious correlations, detect the signal from the noise, beware the Curse of Knowledge, and use the killer statistic to best effect. Learn how numbers, data, and statistics are the key to storytelling with real impact.
Who should attend: Those who work in both consultancy and in-house roles, who have access to data, but who find it challenging to turn numbers into narrative. Anyone who’d like help in building a compelling, evidence-based case with real impact and influence.
