HOW TO APPLY TO PRCA MENA BOARDS?

Purpose: The PRCA’s mission is to create a more professional, ethical and prosperous PR and communication industry. Its purpose is to champion and enforce professional standards through its Professional Charter and Code of Conduct. The Code compels members to adhere to the highest standards of ethical practice. PRCA is committed to engaging with its member base and the broader PR community across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and beyond, and this couldn’t happen without the support of its regional PRCA MENA Board. The Board is set up to build professional competency, address training needs, create occasions for the industry to meet, share best practice and network regularly throughout the year, raise awareness and grow membership of the PRCA MENA. Ultimately, they will ensure the world’s leading voice in PR and communication is recognised within the regional economy.
The PRCA MENA Boards have an agreed set of objectives to support the work of the PRCA in the region. These include:
- To raise the profile of PRCA MENA – the regional arm of the world’s largest Public Affairs, Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA).
- To support the Association-run industry events that inspire and educate.
- To solicit and provide training that members in the region would like to take up.
- To actively share best practice and become the benchmark for excellence.
- To encourage entry into the profession and career development within the region.
Board Structure, Role and Responsibilities
Advisory Board
- Structure: This board will comprise the most senior figures from in-house corporations across the region.
- Purpose: The board’s remit will mainly be to advise on all things PR and communications with a special focus on in-house matters, while also helping to tackle relevant issues or concerns within the broader industry and by contributing to any initiatives set out by the PRCA MENA. The Board will help define best practice and promote, inform and educate the wider region.
- Term: Members must commit to a minimum 2-year period.
- Meetings: Each board will meet at least 2 times a year including the AGM.
Strategy Board
Structure: This board will comprise the most senior figures from Agencies across the region.
Purpose: The board’s remit will mainly be to advise on all things PR and communications with a special focus on Agency matters, while also helping to tackle relevant issues or concerns within the broader industry and by contributing to any initiatives set out by the PRCA MENA. The Board will help define best practice and promote, inform and educate the wider region.
Term: Members must commit to a minimum 2-year period.
Meetings: Each board will meet at least 2 times a year including the AGM.
- These positions will be deemed appropriate by the Chair and approved by the Head of PRCA MENA, to support the objectives of the Board and the Association.
- Each Board will include a Chair and a Vice-Chair.
- Each Board will consist of no more than 12 members from a variety of countries across MENA, who might lead on different themes depending on their expertise and the requirements of the region.
- All PRCA MENA Boards are honorary and advisory.
Board Nomination Process
- A call inviting nominations to the Board will be made via PRCA MENA’s official communication channels. The invitation will include a brief, eligibility criteria and terms and conditions.
- Eligible candidates may self-nominate by sending their CV or LinkedIn profile, with a short statement of intent (max 300 words) to the PRCA Secretariat at nominationscommittee@prca.global
- The Secretariat will check the validity of each nomination (ensuring nominees fit the criteria, code of ethics and conflict of interest) and prepare a list of eligible candidates.
- The List will then be presented to the Nominations Committee, which will conduct interviews if necessary and make final recommendations and appoint the Board.
- A simple majority is required for ratification and appointment.
- Candidates’ short statements will be shared with the Nominations Committee.
- If there are 5 or fewer nominees, the PRCA Mena reserves the right to delay the nomination process to encourage more nominees.
- The Board will be announced by PRCA MENA as soon as possible.
- The PRCA MENA will invite each of its committees and groups, as it sees fit, to nominate a person onto the Board, to advise it on matters in which they specialise (i.e. EIC Committee on inclusion, Mental Health Committee on mental wellness etc.)
Vice-Chair Nomination Criteria & Process (When Applicable)
- To be Vice-Chair, a candidate must be on the PRCA MENA Board and a Corporate Member from either an Agency or In-house.
- A call to the Board will be made inviting nominations for Vice-Chair.
- Candidates may self-nominate by sending their CV or LinkedIn profile, with a short statement of intent (max 300 words) to the PRCA Secretariat at nominationscommittee@prca.global
- The Secretariat will present the list of candidates to the Nominations Committee, who will conduct interviews if necessary and appoint the Vice-Chair.
- A simple majority is required for ratification and selection.
- The Vice-Chair will take up the position at the PRCA Annual General Meeting, being Vice-Chair Designate until that time.
- The Vice-Chair automatically succeeds the Chair at the end of their tenure.
- Should a by-election for the Vice-Chair be required, the above process will be run.
- The Vice-Chair will be Acting Chair during any period where the Chair is unavailable.
- The role of the Vice-Chair will be to deputise for the Chair and to provide their expertise as requested. They may be asked to lead working groups or policy discussions.
Terms & Conditions
- Each Board member is required to be a Corporate Member of PRCA MENA, commit to a minimum two-year tenure and attain CMS accreditation if available regionally.
- Have at least 5 years’ work experience in PR and comms, be director-level or above and be based in the Middle East.
- All Board positions are honorary and do not include remuneration in any form.
- All administration and operations remain the responsibility of the PRCA MENA.
- Board members who resign membership of PRCA MENA must step down with immediate effect.
- Commit to attending a minimum of 2 board meetings including the AGM.
- Work towards the best interests of the PRCA MENA.
- Be willing and able to contribute time, effort and resources when required.
- All final decisions regarding the Board are at the discretion of PRCA MENA.
- Existing Board Members do not need to submit a new nomination to renew their positions but merely confirm their intention to reapply in writing (email) to the PRCA Secretariat at nominationscommittee@prca.global. Once confirmed they will be reentered as a nominee. Existing members do not automatically retain their Board positions and will have to reenter to comply with due process.
